Poly Styrene & X-ray Spex

"YOUNG PUNX WHO WANT TO STICK IT TOGETHER".
On the Germfree Adolescents LP Lora Logic played saxophone on Oh Bondage Up Yours! and I am a cliché however, Ted Bunting overdubbed Lora's sax riff on Identity and Day the world turned day-glo

Poly Styrene
I decided to start a band. I put out two adverts , one in the back of Melody Maker and one in NME that read "Young Punx Who Want To Stick It Together"
X-Ray Spex were a punk band from London. The band were formed after singer Poly Styrene placed an add in the two major Music Magazine's of the time "NME" and the "Melody Maker".

"A lot of people focus on me and think it's all me...I'm at the front because that's what I do and I write the songs, but each and everyone of them in their own right is as good as anyone else and as good as me." - Poly Styrene NME 13 May 1978

Energised by the Rotton crew, Mari started to write more radical lyrics and music exploring the dynmics of consumerism and techno development laced with teen irony, romance and rebellion. And so it was I started to manage the project that was to become the X-Ray Spex

I was working as a trainee advertising agent during the day and in the evening I was playing in various local bands in St Albans where I lived. I decided that I wanted to join a punk band. I moved to London and found "Melody Maker" and I saw the advert. I found myself outside 59 Moore Park Road in Fulham, Falcon Stuarts house. Poly answered the door. I sat down with them and there was Jak playing guitar. Poly was singing and said "join in"

X-Ray Spex were formed in late 1976 by Poly Styrene and manager Falcon Stuart. Their first single 'Oh Bondage Up Yours!' was released in September 1977 by Virgin but was also banned, and it was only ever going to be a one off release before X-Ray Spex signed to EMI.
By the end of 1978 they had three hit singles Germ Free Adolescents, The Day The World Turned Day-glo and Identity. They had one hit album 'Germfree Adolescents released in November of 1978 and one more single Highly Inflammable followed in 1979 and then that was it.
In August 1979 the band split. Poly left and went on to become Maharani Devi Dasi in the Hare Krishna, BP and Jak Airport went on to form Nouveaux and Paul and Rudi went on to join Agent Orange.
Jak and Paul later teamed up to form Airport and Dean.

Laura Logic
This ad stood out. It was totally different to all the other adverts, it said "Young punx" .. It was all very quick really. I didn't answer hundreds of adds or anything, that was the only add that stuck out and that's the first band I auditioned for. I was about 15. It was a very strong impression. When Poly opened the door it was incredible, she had this lovely beautiful smile on her face and when I saw her I just felt like I'd always known her. I just came in and Falcon was there and he wanted to hear me play. I didn't play much, it was a very short audition and Poly was very keen
